Do you long for a flower cutting patch all of your own, from where you can step out and pick armloads of flowers from April to the first frosts in autumn? All for the price of a few packets of seeds. If so this workshop could be for you.
I have learnt so much over the past 10 years as a cut flower grower. I have put what I have learnt into this workshop in a way that I hope will be just the right level of information for you as someone growing for your own pleasure rather than as a commercial grower. I would like to welcome you into my home and garden for an informal morning of learning in a small group of no more than 8 people.
The itinery will be:
9.30 to 10am
Hot or cold drinks and getting to know each other.
10.00 to 11.30
How to assess your own growing space, and how to design your own productive cut flower layout. How to work out how many plants your layout can accomodate. Learn about all the cutting garden plant types. When to sow and harvest. Learn how to maximise the amount of flowers that your plants produce, and how to support them for strong healthy stems. At what stage to pick each flower type for the maximum vase life, and how many days vase life that you might expect for each flower type. Understanding colour and tone. This will help you decide what flowers to choose for the coming year.
11.30 to 12.00
Hot or cold drinks and homemade cakes.
12.00 to 13.00
Seed sowing and propogation basics and demonstration.
Preparing your plot for planting and ongoing care of your plants.
